Eugene Morrow Violette, a professor of history at Louisiana State University until his death in 1940, is credited as one of the founders of the "Dixie Museum" in the LSU War Memorial Tower that later became known as the Historical Museum. The museum was comprised of two smaller exhibitions, each housed in a wing of the Tower.
